Namewee’s I am who I am

I have never introduced a song before in my blog. I have tons of great music to share with you guys.

To my surprise, after listening to the latest Namewee’s single, I am who I am, I have the urge to share it with everyone in the world. Not that I support his outspoken attitude with vulgar and offensive language (this video has none), nor because I love him for what he did in his messages about racism (I still love what he does, but that besides the story), but it’s because the maturity of the music.

I almost gave hope on Malaysian Chinese music. This is obvious as how you see many Malaysian Chinese singers try to break out of this country, and long to venture into music industry in other countries like Taiwan or China. The music composition is sometimes too kiddish, and maturity is not reached in the music piece.

To my surprise, after listening to this Namewee’s single, I immediately fell in love with it. The energy in his rap, the compilation of various music which is just adequate, the counters during the chorus that do not overshadow the melody, the last part of the chorus that brings a significant higher phase of the song, everything is just awesome. Probably one thing I thought would be better, in my opinion, is to play the piano intro twice instead of once, before the drum comes in. But, that’s just my opinion.

The lyrics of the song tells the story of his life from young till now. Simply lyrics, but you can listen to his sincerity to deliver his message. Not forsaking the energy and emphasis in some of the words he applied on. Of all the lyrics, I love this sentence the most:

但不代表 全部人都要变成孔子

(Translated) But not meaning, everybody must become Confucius.

He was arguing that one’s life must have his own uniqueness, not trying to become other great individuals like Confucius.
